Before dreaming up wild theories and stating them as a fact, we need to review our grade school geography.
- Tectonic plates move around.
- Subduction occurs because crust is heavier than lava; even though ice floats on water, it is an exception.
There is no reliable record that far back in time, such that these fantastic assertions can be verified.
Next we consider high school science. A saturated solution of salt water freezes at -20 degrees C. or about -30 degrees F. Even on Mars the temperature goes well above the freezing point near the equator. There was never complete glaciating on Mars or Earth.
Planetary glaciers are well understood so we can simply refer to a geology textbook.
About 60 million years ago, India drifted into Asia creating the Himalayan Mountain range while Antarctica moved (slowly) from the Pacific Ocean to the South Pole. Glaciers formed in the mountains and South Pole, which reflected away sunlight. For a while, this would be a runaway effect; more ice/snow reflects more light causing more glaciation. We have been in ice age oscillations for the last 10 million years, so why does the runaway effect end, and the glaciers retreat?
Consider the case 20,000 years ago when a glacier covered New York up the level of the Empire State building. Water runs out at the foot of the glacier so that southern land areas become flooded. Light radiation passes into these lakes, but all other frequencies are trapped on the way out, and converted to molecular movement. Perhaps you have wondered why an ice-cold lake can heat up warm enough to swim in after a few days. There’s your answer. There are other factors; for example, when water tumbles down, say, a kilometer, it heats up a degree or so. In other words, the higher the glacier, the more unstable it becomes.
